Reusing IT delivers computers to a rural Kenyan school

Kenya, 1999 – Continuing their mission to improve educational access, Reusing IT was at a small rural school in Kenya to install computers in the classroom.

The school, typical in the area, had wooden shutters to keep out the dust but which offer little ventilation. As part of the installation, Reusing IT replaced the shutters with net curtains to let some air in but, essentially, to keep dust out of the equipment. Reusing IT’s founder Ross Cockburn said,

“I snapped this photo of the boys just before we went in to install the computers in the school behind them. It struck me quite powerfully that you don’t need a computer to make you happy. In all of this, the computer has its place, but is not in itself the route to happiness.”
