Sumy, Ukraine, 12th April 2022 – In one of the regions in the eastern part of Ukraine worst affected by the war, many schools have been completely destroyed or damaged beyond use. The World Bank estimates that 10% of Ukraine’s educational infrastructure has been destroyed by the war.
Since these schools cannot reopen without a suitable bomb shelter, pop-up schools have been established in other venues. Reusing IT has been involved in supplying computers for these pop-up schools, crucial for the roll-out of Ukraine’s Unbreakable Education programme.
It’s essential psychologically for children in Ukraine to be able to be together in a classroom, as opposed to isolated at home. Many of the children photographed here would not have been together for months, so the impact of the computers in enabling the classroom goes far beyond the core education itself.
